What is the Golden State Rebates Program?

Golden State Rebates provides instant rebates on energy-efficient products to help Californians save energy and live comfortably. Customers receive these rebates through coupons they can redeem in store or online at participating retailers.

What are the Program’s Terms and Conditions?

Review the program’s Terms and Conditions here. Customers must agree to these as part of receiving a rebate coupon for this program.

Who is eligible for the rebate coupon?

  • Residential customers of one or more of the four funding investor-owned utilities: Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), Southern California Gas Company (SoCal Gas) or San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).
  • Customer must reside in a single-family, multifamily, or manufactured home. 
  • Customer can be a homeowner or a renter. (Renter is responsible for obtaining the property owner’s permission to install the product associated with the rebate.)

How do I get a rebate coupon?

  • Visit goldenstaterebates.com/coupons.
  • Browse and select product type (check the Qualified Products List to identify eligible models).
  • Verify eligibility:
    • Create your login.
    • Complete the eligibility form.
  • Select a retailer (in store or online).
  • Submit.
  • Customers will receive an email with an instant rebate coupon. Please note:
    • For customers shopping at a physical retail location, the coupon includes a  barcode to scan at checkout.
    • Coupons for online orders feature a promo code to enter at cart checkout.

If I have an online coupon, can I use it in store at the same retailer?

In most cases, no. Home Depot and Best Buy in-store coupons will only work in store. Home Depot and Best Buy online coupons will only work for online purchases. However, Lowe’s coupons will work for both online and in-store purchases.

I’d like to purchase my energy-efficient product from a different retailer other than the one I reserved my discount coupon with. Can I get a new coupon?

No. Your retailer selection is final. These are single-use coupons that are specific to the retailer you selected, and they cannot be cancelled or changed.

Does my rebate coupon expire?

Coupons expire on December 31 of the current year unless noted otherwise.* If you do not use your coupon before the expiration date, you may reserve a new coupon starting January 1 of the following year. Please check goldenstaterebates.com/coupons for updates. 

*Expiration date for coupons issued in 2022 has been extended to December 31, 2023.

Which models will my rebate coupon work with?

The coupon you reserve is valid for any model listed on the product category’s Qualified Product List sold by the retailer you selected.

I received a coupon but when I go to check out it scans at zero dollars. Why?

Either the product isn’t on the Qualified Product List or you may have chosen an online coupon and you’re trying to check out in the physical store.

I’m having trouble reserving a coupon, or I cannot find the coupon I already reserved. What should I do?

Can I use a Golden State Rebates coupon for a previous purchase? I recently purchased an eligible product before I got a coupon. Can I get a post-purchase rebate?

No, Golden State Rebates instant coupons are not valid for purchases made prior to the date the coupon is issued.

Are there compliance requirements to participate in the Golden State Rebates Program?

Yes, eligible California IOU residential customers must agree to the Terms and Conditions when requesting an instant coupon code. Customers must enter their utility service address and ZIP Code when requesting a coupon to authenticate their eligibility.

After Installation of my new Energy Efficient Appliance, what should I do with the old one?

Contact your utility directly with guidance on how to dispose of old appliances.

Who funds this program?

The Golden State Rebates Program is funded by Public Purpose Funds on ratepayer use, which are used to fund energy efficiency programs as well as renewable energy, research and other programs approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
