When to replace

If your water heater is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to be proactive and replace it with a new, high-efficiency model before it fails. Other warning signs may include inconsistent performance, leaks around the heating tank, unusual noises, and discolored water from faucets.

Eligibility

  • ENERGY STAR® certified. Must be 40 or 50 gallons. UEF 0.64 or greater.
  • Your new water heater must match your current size (for example, 40 gallons to 40 gallons). Upsizing or downsizing is not eligible.
  • Gas tank water heater must be on the Qualified Products List at the time of purchase.
  • In-store only coupons must be used at a location on the Participating Retail Store List.
  • Water heater must be installed within 60 days of purchase.

Must be a residential customer on a residential rate with an active meter serviced by a Participating California Utility for the installation address. Participating Utilities include San Diego Gas & Electric® Company (SDG&E), Pacific Gas and Electric® Company (PG&E), Southern California Gas® Company (SoCalGas) or Southern California Edison® Company (SCE).
